McKenzie Felix, an ASA College graduate, Accepts Position With United Nations

August 15, 2014

McKenzie Felix from ASA, a member of the men's basketball team, continues to make his alma mater proud by recently earning his Master of Business Administration degree in corporate finance from Dowling College and accepted a finance and budget officer position for the UN.

He will be living and working in Beijing, China for the next few years.

After graduating from ASA in 2011 as his class's salutatorian with a 4.0 GPA, the native of St. Lucia would accept athletic and academic scholarships to study and play basketball at Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance with a minor in accounting, graduating cum laude in 2013. Not taking any time off, he would complete his MBA in a little over a year, graduating summa cum laude with a 3.9 GPA.

Having played a limited amount of organized basketball while growing up in St. Lucia, Felix kept on getting better after arriving in the states in 2007. In his lone season with the Avengers, he would emerge as a leader on and off the court, finishing with averages of close to 3.0 ppg and 3.5 rpg. His numbers kept improving as the season progressed.

In his three seasons at Dowling, Felix would play in 63 NCAA Division II games, ending his career with averages of 2.36 ppg and 1.7 rpg. As a defensive specialist, Felix would be regularly called upon to guard the opposing team's best offensive player.

In addition to his feats in the classroom and on the hardwood, Felix took part in other admirable extracurricular activities. He was a residence assistant at Dowling from 2012-2014. Felix also volunteered his time as a youth basketball coach, ran the Tunnel to Towers race for charity, and helped clean-up efforts with Keep Islip Clean.

"My journey in college started with ASA and I am grateful to my coaches and professors who helped along the way," Felix explained during a recent visit back to ASA. "My experience built the foundation of my college learning and has played a part in me wanting to continue my education and aspire for the best career possible."

Currently residing in Brooklyn, Felix will be moving to China with his wife and young son.
