New Polish archbishop

Along with his appointment as apostolic nuncio, the Holy Father elevated Rev. Grzegorz Piotr Bielaszka to the dignity of archbishop, assigning him the titular see of Tiburnia.

The new papal representative in the United Arab Emirates was born on August 4, 1974, in Szczucin. He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1999, and was incardinated into the Diocese of Tarnów.

He holds a degree in canon law.

20 years in the diplomacy of the Holy See

According to Vatican News, Rev. Bielaszka entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on July 1, 2006. In subsequent years, he served in the apostolic nunciatures in Panama, Iraq, Peru, Hungary, and Gabon. Until now, he served as a nunciature counselor.

He speaks Italian, French, English, and Spanish.

Taking over the post from Archbishop El-Kassis

The Polish clergyman’s predecessor as apostolic nuncio to the United Arab Emirates was Archbishop Christophe Zakhia El-Kassis.

On July 25 of this year, Leo XIV appointed him permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations in New York.
