The times of Stanisław August Poniatowski brought hope for the reform of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but also growing conflicts and a struggle for its independence. How should the Bar Confederation be evaluated? Did it contribute to the first partition of Poland? During the lecture, we will examine questions that have been sparking debates among historians for over two centuries.
The special guest of the event will be Ryszard Pagacz, Deputy Marshal of the Małopolska Voivodeship and guest of the 89th Pulaski Parade. He is the initiator of the unveiling of the Bar Confederation monument in the Low Beskids.
During the meeting, the book “The History of the Bar Confederation 1768–1772 with Particular Emphasis on the Low Beskids Region” will be available.
Dr. Marcin Gadocha is a modern history scholar and assistant professor at the Institute of History and Archival Studies of the Commission of National Education University in Kraków. He specializes in the history of cities in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Polish culinary heritage.
