Germany dominated possession as well as attacking moves; but ultimately the Polish side played a strong defensive game to frustrate the current world champions. The Polish side even had several chances to take advantage in the tie, but in the end Germany held firm. The tie puts Poland in a very good position to progress into the playoffs for the first time in the competition. They will look to put Ukraine to the sword to ensure further progression in the tournament.

What many people considered the two favorites for the group, Poland and Germany played to a tense 0-0 draw following Northern Ireland’s surprise 2-0 win over Ukraine. Both results mean that Ukraine have effectively been eliminated from the tournament, having had two losses from the first two matches of the group.
