Walmart profits rise on stronger US sales

Retail giant Walmart reported higher quarterly profits on Thursday as sales at US stores rose 2.2 percent.

“Walmart had a strong second quarter, and I’m pleased with the earnings and overall results,” said Mike Duke, Wal-Mart Stores president.

Profits stood at just over $4 billion for the second quarter, a rise of 5.7 percent.
