Polish Day Weekend August 23-25 Youngstown OH

August 23, 2013

The excitement around Polish American Heritage Days keeps growing! We were sharing the fun with WFMJ Today Show and chatting it up with Ron Verve. There is so much happening this year; do you have a handle on all the fun options available to you? No?

It's going to be a great weekend to be Polish!

Here goes….

  • On Friday, more than 300 preordered Polish Lunches will be enjoyed by local workers and business owners (I bet if you stop by Kravitz he can satisfy your craving even if you didn’t preorder!)
  • On Saturday, at 5:30 Mass at St. Columba Cathedral will be celebrated by O. Józef Olczak, OSPPE, a special guest from The National Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa. He is in town to help us celebrate the Black Madonna Shrine and her special Feast Day of August 26.
Doors open at the Saxon Club at 5 PM for Zabawa and it looks to be a very popular and fun event…2 LIVE BANDS (Opening with the award-winning Jimmy Killian from Chicago then Chardon Polka Band) plus the endless Pierogi Buffet with more than 15 FLAVORS. If that is not enough, the entertainment will include our first ever PieroGuy Competition and the hilarious 4th Annual Pierogi Eating Contest! This proved to be great last year with Chef Tad adding a fun NO HANDS requirement. There is still time to sign up for both fun events!! The Sukiennice Marketplace has attracted vendor from the entire region this year bringing the best in Polish pottery, amber creations, salt lamps and folk art. Don’t forget the abundant basket raffle, silent auction or 50/50s either! Our famous deli and bakery will be handled by two of the experts: Krakus Deli and pączki-famous Kiedrowski Bakery. So bring a cooler and box to take it all home!
  • On Sunday we bring back the family friendly event you’ve come to love. Doors open at 11 AM and, since mass will be inside the Main Hall at 11:30, you can shop, eat and enjoy without having to wait for mass to finish this year! This modified polka mass will be celebrated by Rev. Eric S. Orzech, pastor at St. Stanislaus Cathedral Parish in Cleveland. The music and the food will be as tasty as the night before with two of our favorites, Jimmy K & Ethnic Jazz and Chardon Polka Band, plus we’re bringing back our own Honky Rocky for a Polish Happy Hour Sing-a-long! Two incredible highlights of our Cultural Garden lineup include renowned szopka artist, David Motak and the Most Reverend Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. to speak about his recent trip to Poland. We’ve added two performances by Living Traditions Folk Ensemble, more vendors, more food stations and a HUGE children’s area! We’ve even imported delicious Polish Water Ice from the Atlantic shore for your enjoyment.

It just goes to prove that, once again this year,

Youngstown saves the best festival for last!
