Seeing as United has had poor league form as of recent, much is now diverted to the European competition, as winning the Europa League would also mean automatic qualification into the Champions League the following season. Manchester United were able to score in the second half through an unforced turnover from the Russian side. United broke with pace as Zlatan Ibrahomivic passed out wide to Henrikh Mkhytarian, the former was able to run into the box. The Armenian then crossed into the box, where Ibrahomivic flicked the ball to Mata who converted close range.
There will be some bitterness to the win however, as Paul Pogba had to come off injured early in the second half. United’s next match will be against Middlesborough in the Premier League.
