For United, their defensive stability still shines through, having only conceded two goals so far against Stoke City in their only draw of the season. City had a few hiccups against Bournemouth in their 2-1 win away, but righted the ship with a 6-0 win away at Watford in the latest matchday.
Another impressive thing to note is how both sides’ strikers in Aguero/Jesus and Lukaku are performing at a very high level early on. Lukaku has scored seven goals in seven games so far, while Aguero and Jesus are scoring on a consistent level as well. The playmakers in Kevin De Bruyne for Manchester City and Henrikh Mkhtaryan for Manchester United both had strong starts, having multiples assists in only a handful of games.
It remains to be seen whether either Manchester side will continue this strongly. Both sides also had strong starts last season, yet United ended outside of the Top four and City was only able to achieve third. However, with a year to already work on their sides, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho would be disappointed if they won’t sustain a title challenge until the end of the season.
