A Walk with God
Guarenas is a city located near Caracas, where Polish Pallottines minister. In the first days after the tragedy, the parish provided immediate assistance to those who could not return home. Today, those affected who have the opportunity are returning to their homes, and aid centers are being organized for the rest.
In this situation, the Pallottines continue their spiritual support. Fr. Dawid Dziedzic SAC, along with parishioners, walked the streets of Guarenas with the Blessed Sacrament. “It was, as we call it, a walk with the Lord God in the Blessed Sacrament” – describes the missionary.
People Took to the Streets
According to Fr. Dziedzic, the procession through the parish areas with the Blessed Sacrament was a response to the fear that still remains in the hearts of the residents after the earthquake.
“Our good God reached many places in our parish, many corners, housing estates. We could experience people coming out into the street and awaiting precisely this hope, which is Jesus,” says the Pallottine.
The behavior of the youngest was particularly moving. “A beautiful testimony from children who shouted to each other: «Come, come, we will pray together so that the earthquake does not return to us»” – recounts Fr. Dziedzic.
Fr. Dawid Dziedzic emphasizes that for many residents, prayer in the streets was an experience of God’s closeness and hope in a time of fear and uncertainty. “Others came out with tears, asking the Lord God for support in these difficult moments,” reports the Pallottine.
Aid Centers
In the capital of Venezuela and its surroundings, the fight against the effects of the catastrophic earthquake continues. The number of victims is constantly rising and is approaching 3,000. The fate of approximately 50,000 is still unknown. Services pull more bodies from under the rubble every day. Millions of residents need immediate help.
As reported by Fr. Dawid Dziedzic SAC, centers for affected people are currently being established in Guarenas. Two of the five are already prepared. The Pallottines are also considering support for Junquito, located above Caracas, where the needs are also great.
Aid to Venezuela is also flowing from our country. So far, Caritas Poland has donated one million zlotys to save lives and support the activities carried out by Caritas Venezuela.
