The Prefecture of the Papal Household announced the Pope’s visit to the Roman headquarters of the World Food Programme. On Monday, June 22, Leo XIV will meet with participants of the annual session of the Executive Board, staff, and their families.
This will be the second papal visit to this institution in history. On June 13, 2016, Pope Francis went there, among other things, with an appeal for the problem of hunger to stop being treated as a “natural” and obvious phenomenon in the world.
The World Food Programme has existed since 1961 and has been a full-fledged UN program since 1965. Its goal is to support societies suffering from hunger so that they become self-sufficient and not dependent on external aid.
