During the greetings after the Angelus prayer, the Pope indicated that for two weeks now, the Middle East has been experiencing the “terrifying violence of war,” as a result of which “thousands of innocent people have been killed, and many others have been forced to leave their homes.” The Holy Father assured his spiritual closeness to those who lost loved ones due to strikes aimed at schools, hospitals, and residential areas.

“A cause for great concern,” the Pope added, “are the events in Lebanon. I express hope for paths of dialogue that will help the authorities of that country implement lasting solutions to the current serious crisis – for the common good of all Lebanese people,” the Holy Father emphasized.

“On behalf of the Christians of the Middle East and all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: I call for a ceasefire! Let the paths of dialogue reopen!” emphasized Leo XIV.
