During the almost hour-long conversation, drawing from their own painful experiences, each person present presented proposals to the Pope so that the Church’s response to such dramatic cases would be more effective.

The Pope listened with attention and kindness, assuring them of his closeness and that of the entire ecclesial community. The Holy Father also assured them of his commitment to ensure that the proposals presented would form the basis for further actions, so that the Church could truly be a safe and spiritually healthy place where wounds suffered would find comfort and healing.

The Press Office reported that the victims felt that the Pope shared their pain.

As previously reported by the Holy See Press Office, the meeting between the Pope and victims of sexual abuse by clergy was organized by the Church in Spain.
