This motto contains a reference to the Gospel according to Matthew: “And whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.”

Care for minor migrants

By choosing this motto, Pope Leo XIV wishes to express the Church’s concern for minors directly experiencing migration, recalling the duty to welcome each of them, as the Gospel teaches us – informs the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

Even one life has the highest value

The communiqué states that popes have previously addressed this topic in their magisterium, but the current migration situation poses new challenges that seriously threaten the rights and dignity of the youngest and require urgent and effective responses. Therefore, it is not about discussing numbers or percentages, because “even one” life has the highest value.
