Leo XIV received the President of South Korea

Pope Leo XIV today received the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, in audience at the Vatican. According to the Holy See Press Office, the discussions concerned, among other things, relations between the Holy See and South Korea, preparations for World Youth Day, and the international situation.

After meeting with the Holy Father, the President of the Republic of Korea held talks at the Secretariat of State with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

Good relations between the Holy See and Korea

As stated in the communiqué from the Holy See Press Office, during the cordial talks, the good relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Korea were emphasized. Attention was also drawn to the positive contribution of the Catholic Church to the life of Korean society, particularly in the areas of education and charitable and welfare activities.

World Youth Day and the international situation

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were also the preparations for the upcoming World Youth Day, which will take place in Seoul in 2027, as well as selected issues related to the regional and international situation.
