In a commemorative telegram addressed to the President of the Colombian Episcopate, Archbishop Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, the Holy Father, “deeply saddened by the news of the tragic earthquake,” assured his prayers for the eternal life of the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured as a result of the cataclysm.
He also expressed his condolences to the families mourning the death of their loved ones and assured them of his gratitude and closeness to all “who are dedicated with great sacrifice to the search, rescue operations, and assisting the victims.” The Pope entrusted everyone to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and imparted his apostolic blessing.
