IRS expands Business Tax Account. Polish companies in the USA can handle more tax matters online, without calling the agency

On August 6, 2026, the IRS announced new features for the Business Tax Account (BTA) — an online platform for managing business taxes. Entrepreneurs can now download digital EIN confirmation, manage payment plans for back taxes, and view more types of notices online, without phone calls or office visits.

IRS Business Tax Account nowe funkcje dla firm 2026

According to announcement IR-2026-87 of August 6, 2026, the Internal Revenue Service has expanded the features of the Business Tax Account (BTA) — a free online platform for self-managing business tax accounts. The changes are part of the agency’s broader “digital first initiative” aimed at reducing paper correspondence and the need to call the IRS hotline, which is notoriously known for hours-long wait times during tax season.

What’s new in the summer of 2026

New BTA features include, among others:

  • An expanded library of digital IRS notices — recently added notices include CP081B (notice of possible refund), CP211A (approval of extension of time to file), and CP134R (federal tax deposit discrepancy — refund due).
  • The ability for an authorized person to download the CP575 notice (EIN assignment confirmation) — the document can now be used at a bank instead of having to request Letter 147C by phone.
  • Viewing the balance and details of an existing installment agreement and making a payment toward it.
  • The ability to make payments as part of an Offer in Compromise settlement, allowing taxpayers to resolve tax debt for less than the full amount owed.

“The Business Tax Account is a key element of the agency’s digital strategy,” said IRS Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano, as quoted in the announcement. He emphasized that expanding self-service options will allow eligible businesses and organizations to securely and conveniently manage their federal tax obligations without a phone call or a visit to an office.

Who can already set up a BTA account today

Access to the platform is available to: sole proprietorships with an EIN, partners in partnerships and shareholders of S corporations who have an SSN or ITIN and a filed Schedule K-1 form, as well as S corporations and C corporations, government entities (federal, state, and local), tribal government entities, and tax-exempt organizations. The IRS announces that in the coming months, access to BTA will be extended to further types of entities.

What can be handled through a BTA account

Depending on the business type and user role, the account allows you to, among other things: view and pay tax due from a bank account (current return, prior year balances, federal tax deposits), schedule a payment for any business day up to a year in advance and cancel it, check the history of processed payments — including those via EFTPS, wire transfer, check, or money order — and see if any were returned or rejected. You can also save multiple bank accounts in a digital “wallet,” request a tax compliance check, view the company name and address registered with the IRS, grant account access to employees, and download payroll, income, and excise tax return transcripts.

Why this matters for Polish entrepreneurs in the USA

For the owner of a Polish company in the States — whether a sole proprietorship or an LLC taxed as an S corp — the practical benefit is simple: fewer calls to the IRS and less waiting for a document needed “right now.” Banks may require the CP575 notice with the EIN when opening a business account — previously, if the document was lost, the only option was to call and request Letter 147C. Now, an authorized person can download it from their online account. Similarly with a payment plan: the ability to schedule a payment a year in advance makes it easier to keep track of deadlines, which can be an additional burden when running a business and handling accounts in English.

We have previously written about EIN numbers and the tax obligations of Polish companies operating in the USA in connection with setting up an LLC in the USA and taxes for a Polish company selling to the USA — the BTA account is a natural complement to those topics, as it applies to an already registered and operating business.
