Leader of the Polish Episcopate
Archbishop Michalik played a key role in shaping the face of the Polish Church at the turn of the centuries. From 1999–2004, he served as vice-chairman of the KEP, and in 2004, he was elected its chairman. He held this office for two terms, until 2014. His voice was also heard in Europe – from 2011–2014, he held the position of vice-president of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences, engaging in dialogue concerning the continent’s identity.
