The automaker found that the power distribution center in certain Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300 vehicles can overheat and blow a fuse.
If the fuse blows, the vehicle could lose its anti-lock brake and stability control system.
“This could lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash,” Chrysler said in a submission to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Chrysler said it is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fires as a result of the defect but will be replacing the faulty fuse at no cost.
The defect was first discovered in a Michigan State Police training vehicle in February.
