Sending money to Poland does not always mean sending złoty. Some families would rather receive dollars, to put aside as savings or to spend in that currency. Others are flying to Poland themselves and want cash waiting for them when they land.

U.S. Money Express Co. lets you send a transfer from the U.S. that is paid out in Poland in U.S. dollars (USD), in cash. Below we explain where and when the money can be picked up and what the recipient needs to bring.

Where in Poland can you pick up dollars in cash?

First of all, at the PKO Bank Polski branch the sender selects. PKO Bank Polski S.A. is the main partner of U.S. Money Express in Poland.

Cash dollars are also paid out at locations of banks in the Contact network. That gives another option when a different bank is easier for the recipient to reach.

It makes sense to choose the branch together with the recipient before you send. A retired mother or a brother who works shifts knows best which branch is closest and when they can stop by.

When is the money ready for pickup?

According to the company, express cash transfers in dollars to PKO Bank Polski are “paid out the next business day.” The company describes this as its most popular service.

Because it is a business day, weekends and holidays are worth keeping in mind. If the money is needed by a specific date, for example before a trip, send it with some time to spare.

For transfers sent online, you can check the status under transfer history in your account. Status information is also available by phone.

Dollars or złoty: which should you choose?

Dollars work well when the recipient wants to save them or spend them in that currency, or when the transfer is for the sender. For vacations in Poland, the company suggests a simple idea: “send money to yourself.” You send the transfer in the U.S. and pick up the dollars after you arrive, at the branch you chose.

If your family in Poland needs złoty, there are other options:

  • cash in złoty at any Polish Post (Poczta Polska) location or Bank Pocztowy branch,
  • złoty delivered to the door by a letter carrier, which is especially convenient for seniors,
  • a transfer to an account at any bank in Poland.

The last two options are covered in more detail in separate articles in this series.

What does the recipient need to bring?

After sending, the sender receives a Transfer Receipt showing the transfer number and the payout location.

The sender then notifies the recipient, passing on the transfer number and the branch where the money is waiting. The recipient goes to that location with an identity document and shows it at payout.

Enter the recipient’s full name carefully when you send, because the recipient confirms their identity with an ID at payout. When sending to yourself, you list yourself as the recipient and bring your own ID to the branch.

How do you send a dollar transfer, and where can you get help?

You can send a transfer through a company agent, online at online.usmoneyexpress.com, or by mail. Agents accept cash, cashier’s checks, personal checks and money orders; online, you pay with a U.S.-issued debit or credit card or from your own U.S. bank account.
