A cash home delivery transfer sends money from the U.S. so the recipient in Poland gets Polish złoty in hand from a Polish Post (Poczta Polska) employee at their address. You pay in dollars through an agent, online or by mail; the recipient shows an ID.
Many Polish American families send money to their parents in Poland on a regular basis: for everyday expenses, for medicine, before the holidays. For an older person, though, a trip to the bank or the post office can be a real outing, with travel, lines and sometimes a ride from a neighbor.
That is why U.S. Money Express Co. offers a transfer in which the money comes to the recipient instead of the recipient going to get the money. Below we explain how it works and what you need to prepare on the American side.
How does cash home delivery work?
The sender arranges the transfer in the U.S. and pays in dollars. The recipient in Poland receives the money in Polish złoty (PLN), delivered by a Polish Post employee, the letter carrier, to the address the sender provided.
The recipient does not have to leave home or go to a bank. All they need is to be at the given address and show an identity document when the cash is handed over.
The service is available only within Poland and only in złoty. According to the company, it is offered in PLN exclusively by US Money Express.
Why is it a good fit for elderly parents?
Because the cash goes straight into their hands, at home. That matters for a mother who lives alone, a father who no longer drives, or parents who live far from the nearest bank branch.
There is also no need to teach your parents online banking. For many seniors, an envelope from the letter carrier is simply the most familiar way to receive money.
The sender notifies the recipient and shares the transfer number from the receipt, so the letter carrier’s visit does not come as a surprise.
How do you send the transfer from the U.S.?
There are three ways, and each ends with a letter carrier in Poland delivering złoty to the given address.
- Through an agent or at a company office: pay by cash, cashier’s check, personal check or money order and get a transaction receipt. Check it before you accept it.
- Online, at online.usmoneyexpress.com: pay with a U.S.-issued debit or credit card or from your own U.S. bank account.
- By mail: send an order form with a check or money order made out to U.S. Money Express Co. to the office in Chicago or in Greenpoint.
You can check the transfer fee before sending with the online fee calculator or by phone. Each of these methods is explained step by step in a separate article in this series.
What recipient details should you have ready?
Before sending, keep these at hand:
- the recipient’s full first and last name,
- the exact address in Poland where the letter carrier should deliver the cash,
- the recipient’s phone number, which, according to the company, speeds up contact,
- for online transfers, the purpose of the transfer, which is required for European countries.
After sending, keep the Transfer Receipt with the transfer number. You can track the status under transfer history in the online service or by phone.
