The “Senate – Polonia 2025” competition for co-financing public tasks in the field of care for Polonia and Poles abroad has been settled.

In the resolution of April 23 this year, the Presidium of the Senate granted subsidies for tasks related to:

– strengthening Polish and Polonia communities in their countries of residence (direction 2) – a total of 7 million 100 thousand PLN;

– development of existing and creation of new Polonia structures (direction 3) – 10 million 14 thousand 492 PLN;

– promotion of Poland and Polish culture and preservation of cultural and historical heritage abroad (direction 4) – 17 million 295 thousand PLN;

– activities for Polonia education (direction 6) – 7 million 861 thousand 800 PLN;

– activities for Poles in the East (direction 7) – 4 million 404 thousand 703 PLN,

– and also – co-financing (in the amount of 120 thousand PLN) for one task (under direction 1) related to the activation of the young generation of Polonia, and for four tasks (from direction 5), including supporting and developing Polonia media (a total of 520 thousand PLN).

Earlier, on April 3 this year, the Presidium of the Senate adopted a resolution, according to which it commissioned non-governmental organizations to carry out public tasks related to the development of Polonia media (direction 5) and the activation of the young generation of Polonia (direction 1) and granted subsidies for this purpose in the total amount of 24 million PLN – 7 million PLN and 17 million PLN respectively.

The Presidium of the Senate considered the following tasks as priority: organizing a global meeting of young Polonia, supporting stays in Poland – including holiday and educational stays – for children and youth from Ukraine, supporting the civic activity of Poles living abroad, including civic education and the involvement of Polonia in local socio-political structures in their countries of residence, supporting activities aimed at increasing the organizational capacity and reach of Polonia organizations, supporting activities aimed at popularizing events or achievements of individuals honored by the Senate with resolutions establishing the year 2025 as the year of these events or individuals.

The “Senate – Polonia 2025” competition was announced on December 9, 2024. The budget of the Chancellery of the Senate for 2025 provided funds for supporting Polonia and Poles abroad in the total amount of 71.5 million PLN. 311 entities participated in the competition, and 1000 offers for the implementation of tasks were submitted. Offers could only be submitted by organizations registered in Poland, listed in the Act on Public Benefit Activity and Volunteerism, with experience in working for Polonia and Poles living abroad.

The projects were formally assessed by a team of employees of the Chancellery of the Senate, and substantively by the competition committee. Subsequently, they were reviewed by members of the Senate’s Committee on Emigration Affairs and Liaison with Poles Abroad. The final decision on commissioning the implementation and partial co-financing of the tasks proposed in the selected offers belonged to the Presidium of the Senate.

Funds for the implementation of public tasks in the field of care for Polonia and Poles abroad are transferred in the form of a targeted subsidy. The tasks are implemented from January 1 to December 31, 2025.
