The deliberations will culminate in a Holy Mass concelebrated by the Holy Father with the cardinals at 7:30 AM at the Altar of the Chair of St. Peter, Vatican News reports.
The exhortation Evangelii gaudium and the missionary nature of the Church, the apostolic constitution Praedicate Evangelium, the role of the Roman Curia and its relations with particular Churches, synodality, and liturgy – these are the issues that will be the focus of the work of the Extraordinary Consistory convened by Pope Leo XIV. The deliberations will take place on January 7 and 8 and will be the first consistory of this pontificate.
The Pope will spend two days of prayer, sharing, and reflection, lived in a spirit of fraternity and communion, with the members of the College of Cardinals. Many of them participated yesterday in the closing celebration of the Holy Door and in the Holy Mass on the Solemnity of the Epiphany. The meeting aims to “foster common discernment and to offer support and advice to the Holy Father in the exercise of his demanding responsibility in leading the universal Church.”
The detailed program foresees the start of the Consistory on Wednesday at 4:00 PM in the Synod Hall in the Vatican. The deliberations will be held behind closed doors, with the participation of the Pope. The following day, January 8, the Holy Father will concelebrate Holy Mass with the cardinals at the Altar of the Chair in the Vatican Basilica. At 9:30 AM, the morning session will begin, lasting until 12:45 PM, again in the Synod Hall. The conclusion of the two-day deliberations is scheduled for the afternoon, from 3:15 PM to 7:00 PM.
