The match was rather a cagey affair until the ending of the first half. Ballon D’Or finalist Manuel Neuer pulled a wonder save against Theo Walcott before the first half went to the end. Unfortunately, Neuer was also responsible for Arsenal’s opener as he botched coming out attempting to claim a free kick. As a result, substitute Olivier Giroud was able to finish at close range (although there was suspicion of handball). Arsenal was able to finish the game off after Ozil secured the win after Bellerin did some great work off the right flank.
Bayern Munich was ultimately rather uninspired through the entire exchange, dominating possession but testing Cech only a few times. Arsenal was quite solid defensively and employed an effective counter-attacking setup that proved to be Bayern’s weakness in the past.
Bayern Munich still leads the group, while Arsenal will need a result to gain a strong position in the table. The return fixture at the Allianz Arena will be highly poised.
