Celebrating black history month with kosciuszkos legacy kat

In his will drafted in 1798, Kosciuszko specified that the proceeds from his service in the American Revolutionary War were to be used to free and educate enslaved African Americans. His words have a special meaning as we celebrate Black History Month. It is observed in the United States each February to pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship rights in American society.

Kosciuszko attempted to liberate and empower that oppressed part of society 65 years before President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It made him not only a hero who contributed to American independence but also an advocate for racial and social equality in the United States.

At the Kosciuszko Foundation, we strive to cultivate the legacy of the Polish American hero by building an inclusive community. Please connect with us, become a member, or donate to your favorite cause to help us carry out our programs and fulfill the Kosciuszko Foundation’s mission.
