“I wish to address to you and to the entire dear Jewish Community of Rome my warmest wishes on the occasion of the solemn festivities that you are preparing to celebrate,” wrote Leo XIV in a telegram published by the Holy See Press Office. “I express the hope that these holidays will be an occasion for abundant blessings from the Most High and a source of joy: may the arrival of Rosh Hashanah bring with it the promise of peaceful renewal and the sweetness of a prosperous beginning; may the sacred silence of Yom Kippur become an occasion for peace and inner light; may the festival of Sukkot be full of joy, gratitude, and shared celebration.”
Addressing the entire Jewish community through the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Riccardo Di Segni, the Pope assured them of the respect of himself and the Church community, as well as his prayer to God to allow the followers of both religions “to grow in mutual friendship.”
