Anna Przewoźnik – Jasna Góra
During the solemn Holy Mass, the Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation, authored by the Blessed Card. Stefan Wyszyński, Primate of Poland, were renewed. “Today, on the seventieth anniversary of the Jasna Góra Vows, we wish to continue seeing in them a Polish charter of human rights,” said the Primate of Poland, Archbishop Wojciech Polak.
Archbishop Polak also referred to the teachings of Leo XIII. “Mary is indeed like a signpost for us—Pope Leo XIII once said of Her—because she directs us beyond herself, showing that the ultimate destination is the Lord Jesus and His Word,” Archbishop Polak pointed out.
“In Mary of Nazareth—as Pope Leo XIII told us—we find our history: a history immersed in the universal experience of our humanity,” emphasized the Primate of Poland.
Relevance of the Vows
Primate Polak noted that one must still stand up for the values contained in the Jasna Góra Vows, and still stand on the side of the sanctity of life and its dignity.
Unique Memories
The renewed Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation are a profound experience for many pilgrims. Today, as a married couple, Bogumiła and Mieczysław Owsiński from Bydgoszcz renewed the Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation once again. They were also witnesses to this event 70 years ago, as children back then.
Mr. and Mrs. Owsiński confessed that they have tried to fulfill the promises resulting from the Gospel and the vows for 56 years of their marriage.
70th Anniversary of a Special Event
August 26 marks the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Polish Nation, made in 1956 to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland. The Jasna Góra Vows contain a program for the spiritual, moral, and social renewal of the nation. They were written in Komańcza by the Primate of Poland, Card. Stefan Wyszyński, who was imprisoned by the communist authorities. The text of the promise referred to the vows of John II Casimir, made in the Lviv Cathedral in 1656, when the monarch entrusted his kingdom to the Mother of God and proclaimed her Queen of the Polish Crown. The author of the text of the Lviv vows was St. Andrzej Bobola.
Today’s celebration is primarily a thanksgiving for Mary’s special role in the history of the Polish nation. Today’s program of celebrations for the Solemnity of Our Lady of Jasna Góra will also include a Eucharistic procession, and at 7:00 PM, a Holy Mass will be celebrated under the leadership of Archbishop Wacław Depo, Metropolitan of Częstochowa.
