As part of the Caritas Italia delegation’s visit, meetings with local Caritas staff, visits to current project sites, and discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and defining operational priorities for the coming months were planned.
Huge needs in Gaza
And the needs are immense. In early July, Caritas Holy Land reported on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in areas that have been the scene of a devastating conflict for the past few years. Makeshift shacks by sewage ditches, rats attacking children in particular, a lack of medicines, and above all, drinkable water – these are just some of the problems.
In the face of severe clean water shortages, Caritas Jerusalem has launched deliveries by tankers. The activities are carried out in close coordination with local authorities and community representatives to ensure that aid reaches those most in need safely and fairly – the organization assures.
One of the areas receiving aid is the Al-Abradż region, whose residents have struggled with a shortage of clean drinking water for a long time.
Sharing life with those who suffer
“Being in the Holy Land today means deciding to share life with people who continue to suffer from the effects of war and instability,” said Father Marco Pagniello, director of Italian Caritas. “We want to listen, meet, accompany, and renew a bond that has never been broken. Our presence is a sign of closeness to the local Church and to the people who daily endure hardships with dignity, in the hope that peace will once again become a real prospect.”
Initiatives for those in need
Caritas Italy’s visit is part of its commitment to the Holy Land, carried out through humanitarian aid activities, support for social and health services, accompaniment of Christian communities, and promotion of processes aimed at restoring peace and reconciliation.
