From Przemyśl to Rzeszów
Bp Krzysztof Chudzio was born on June 25, 1963, in Przemyśl. After graduating from the Higher Theological Seminary in Przemyśl on June 14, 1988, he was ordained a priest as a presbyter of the Archdiocese of Przemyśl.
He then worked as a vicar of St. Adalbert’s parish in Krosno. For many years, he was associated with the Kamianets-Podilskyi diocese in Ukraine, where he served as secretary to the diocesan bishop, chancellor of the curia, and organizer of curial work. In the years 2005-2006, he directed the Archdiocesan Museum in Przemyśl.
Formator and Parish Priest
In subsequent years, he was the spiritual director of the Higher Theological Seminary in Przemyśl and a lecturer at the Theological Institute there. From 2015 to 2020, he served as parish priest in Jasienica Rosielna. He also became an honorary canon of the cathedral chapter in Przemyśl.
On April 3, 2020, he was appointed titular bishop of Marazane and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Przemyśl. He received episcopal ordination on May 2, 2020. His motto is the words “Deo fideli et misericordi”, which means “To God faithful and merciful”.
Help and Mercy
In the Episcopate, Bishop Chudzio is the chairman of the Charitable Commission and the chairman of the Team for Aid to the Church in the East. He also heads the Supervisory Commission of Caritas Polska and is a member of the Council for Family Affairs.
His episcopal coat of arms includes symbols referring to Przemyśl, Divine Mercy, and the Mother of God. It features a cross, a burning heart with rays, and the letter “M” on a blue background.
Right of Succession
A coadjutor bishop assists the diocesan bishop in governing the diocese and has the right of succession. This means that after a vacancy in the episcopal see, he automatically assumes the office of diocesan bishop. Currently, the ordinary of Rzeszów is Bishop Jan Wątroba.
