Massive Bombings
“The last hours were again very difficult for the entire country. Between May 13 and 14, there were a great many bombings,” Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas told Vatican media. As he reported, Ukrainian authorities counted over 1500 long-range drones, which also reached cities in the west of the country, including Ivano-Frankivsk and Uzhhorod. During the night, Kyiv also became a target, attacked by drones and about sixty missiles, largely ballistic.
Attacks on Humanitarian Aid
The nuncio is particularly concerned about the attack on a United Nations vehicle belonging to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. It was hit in Kherson during aid distribution. “These are clearly marked vehicles that only move after informing both Ukrainian and Russian authorities in advance,” the hierarch emphasized. He added that “it is obvious that these are deliberate attacks and it is not the first time.”
Traces in Kyiv
Archbishop Kulbokas reported that fragments of missiles were also found on the nunciature grounds. They did not cause significant damage to people or buildings. He also spoke about a conversation with Fr. Rafail Stefurak OSBM, parish priest of St. Basil the Great Parish in Kyiv. In the church roof, already repaired after earlier attacks, 57 holes from drone and missile fragments were found.
Prayer for Peace
The most difficult situation is in the districts on the left bank of the Dnieper. The nuncio speaks of over 16 killed in one night, hundreds wounded, and almost half of the city again without water. “If the bombings continue with such intensity, it is not a good sign. Rather, it indicates a will to continue the war (…). For us, there is certainly nothing left but to pray for peace,” he said.
