The Orchard Lake Schools – Lisa Healy

A First Prize winner of the prestigious Olga Kern International Piano Competition, Tetiana Shafran has emerged as one of the most compelling pianists of her generation. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, she has earned international recognition for her poetic interpretations, technical brilliance, and emotionally nuanced performances. Her career has brought her to concert halls and festivals across Europe and the United States, with appearances alongside leading orchestras and conductors. Following her appearance in Orchard Lake, Shafran will continue to engagements with the New Mexico Philharmonic, where she remains a celebrated returning guest artist.

The afternoon recital will feature an ambitious and richly varied program highlighting both beloved masterworks and Eastern European musical traditions. Audiences will hear works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Mykola Lysenko, Ferruccio Busoni, George Enescu, and Frédéric Chopin. The repertoire reflects Shafran’s extraordinary range, moving from Beethoven’s architectural grandeur and Chopin’s lyricism to the folkloric and nationalistic colors of Lysenko and Enescu.

“Tetiana Shafran represents the very highest caliber of international artistry,” said Marian Tănău, Founder and CEO of the American Romanian Festival, Inc. “Her performances combine extraordinary virtuosity with profound emotional depth. We are proud to partner with the Polish Institute of Culture & Research to bring an artist of this stature to Michigan audiences.”

Ania Bieciuk, Associate Director for Polonia Affairs at the Polish Institute of Culture & Research, emphasized the significance of the collaboration and the cultural resonance of the event. “We are thrilled to partner with the American Romanian Festival in presenting such remarkable talent from Ukraine at the Galeria. Tetiana Shafran is not only an award-winning pianist of international distinction, but also a powerful artistic voice whose music transcends borders. At a time when Ukrainian culture and artists deserve visibility and support, it is especially meaningful to welcome her to Orchard Lake.”

The concert continues the Polish Institute’s mission of presenting world-class cultural programming while fostering international artistic dialogue through partnerships across the broader Central and Eastern European community. Guests are also invited to enjoy a complimentary reception following the performance.
