“The mission of the Church is to proclaim the Gospel, to proclaim peace. If someone wants to criticize me for proclaiming the Gospel, let them do so in truth.”
After Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who spoke this morning, now Leo XIV himself comments on today’s statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who again criticized the Pope.
In front of Villa Barberini, his residence in Castel Gandolfo, Leo XIV stopped with a group of journalists. “The Church has spoken out against all nuclear weapons for years, so there is no doubt here,” said the Holy Father, referring to Trump’s words, who claimed that the Pope considered Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons acceptable, which would threaten all Catholics.
“I simply hope that I will be heard because of the value of the word of God,” emphasized Leo XIV, noting that “he has spoken about this since the very beginning of his pontificate.”
