Krzysztof Bronk – Vatican
We publish the integral recording of the papal speech along with short video clips preserved in the Vatican archive.
In the archive of the Vatican Television Center (CTV), John Paul II’s speech itself was not preserved, but only individual several-minute shots that capture the unique atmosphere of the meeting with young people at the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile.
The long, over half-hour speech was centered on Christ. If you desire life, seek it – said John Paul II – and you will find it in Christ, for He is the way, the truth, and the life.
The Pope compared the situation of the world, especially young people, to Jairus’ 12-year-old daughter, whom Jesus resurrected. Everyone thought she was dead, but Jesus claimed she was only sleeping. And indeed, at His word, she returned to life. According to the Pope, life and love still beat in the hearts of young people. However, they need Christ to truly live. They need a spiritual resurrection.
Therefore, the Pope asked young people to be close to Jesus and build their lives on Him. He reminded them that Jesus Himself comes to meet them in the most difficult moments of life, because He knows their problems and He alone can solve them.
John Paul II convinced young people that the future of the world depends on the shape they give to their own lives. Man can build a world without God, but ultimately such a world will turn against man.
The Holy Father encouraged young Chileans to unequivocally choose Christ and renounce ideologies that mislead young people.
