Joint Project

The exhibition at Palazzo Barberini will run until mid-June 2026. On this occasion, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major has lent the bust of Canon Giovanni Angelo Frumenti. The work, attributed to Bernini, is part of a funerary monument kept in the temple’s baptistery.

Promotional Tickets

As part of the collaboration, a special offer has been prepared for visitors. Holders of a ticket to the “Bernini and Barberini” exhibition can enter the Museum at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major at a promotional price. In turn, visitors to the basilica museum, by showing their ticket, will receive a discount on the exhibition at Palazzo Barberini. The initiative aims to encourage the discovery of the artist’s work in the broader context of his presence in Rome.

Bernini in the Basilica

For those interested, a special guided tour “Bernini in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major: genius between art and faith” has also been prepared. The route includes, among others, the tombs of Pietro and Gianlorenzo Bernini, the baptistery with the relief of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the sculpture of Philip IV, King of Spain, as well as the famous spiral staircase. The tour ends on the panoramic terraces with views of the rooftops of Rome – from the site of the artist’s first workshop to the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.
