After the Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father made a strong appeal for an end to the war against Ukraine, four years after its full-scale outbreak.
“My heart continues to turn to the dramatic situation, which is visible to all. How many victims, how many broken lives and shattered families! How much destruction! How much unspeakable suffering…” – cried the Pope with pain.
Every war marks entire generations
He added that every war is a wound inflicted on the entire human family, leaving behind death, devastation, and a trace of pain that marks entire generations. “Peace cannot be postponed – it is an urgent need that must find a place in hearts and translate into responsible decisions. Therefore, I strongly renew my appeal: let the cannons fall silent! Let the bombings cease! Let a ceasefire be reached without delay and let dialogue be strengthened to open the path to peace,” appealed the Holy Father.
May everyone pray for those suffering from wars
The Pope encouraged everyone to unite in prayer for “the tormented Ukrainian people and for all who suffer from this war and every conflict in the world,” so that the much-awaited gift of peace may shine upon our days.
