Summertime and the living is easy ... except for the Polish American Congress

June 29, 2010

Ridgewood, N.Y. .. The temptation on a hot and humid Sunday morning is to take off and head for the beach and the cooling water of the ocean.

But for Chris Rybkiewicz (seated left) and Bogdan Bachorowski (right) and the rest of their Polish American Congress Voter Registration  Committee, church comes first.

This Sunday it was Ridgewood's St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church where they had scheduled a voter registration session in front of its doors.

Shown here with Rybkiewicz and Bachorowski are Rev.Vlad Kubrak (standing, fourth from right) along with several newly-registered voters and members of Father Kubrak's Parish Committee.

The event gave the Polish American Congress a chance to also wish Father Kubrak a Happy Birthday and continued success in his assignment at St. Matthias.

Father Vlad has a special and long-lasting connection with the Polish American Congress.  More than a dozen years ago, he was a member of the Congress' executive board before deciding to leave and begin his studies for the priesthood.

"For American citizens," Rybkiewicz reminded the parishioners of St. Matthias, "voting is a basic right and privilege.  For American Catholics, it should be a moral obligation."
