Polish-American Heritage Days in Youngstown

August 23-24, 2014, Saxon Club, Ohio - Join us to celebrate all things Polish at Polish Days! The event will feature Polish food, two polka bands, folk art vendors, Polish language, cultural workshops and authentic folk dance performances by Living Traditions Folk Ensemble. The event will take place at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44509. This event is sponsored by Polish Youngstown, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. SATURDAY - AUGUST 24 11 a.m. - Midnight
2nd Annual POKER & PIEROGI Charity Card Games & Tournament
This is an event for amateurs and serious card players alike!

  • 11 AM Doors will open and poker cash games and black jack tables will open.
  • 1 PM Tournament will begin. It is $60 to buy in and there is a BONUS of $500 in extra chips for preregistration.
  • 6 PM Second Chance Turbo will begin if there is enough interest.

You DO NOT have to play in the tournament to play in the cash games. There will be snacks and drinks available for tournament players with delicious Polish pierogi and cocktails available for purchase. In addition, there will be basket raffles, 50/50 and other opportunities throughout the event.

SUNDAY - AUGUST 25, 2014 10:30 am - 8 pm
Polish Day $5 admission – free with YSU Student ID. The event will start with a Polka Mass, followed by live polka bands, folk dance performances, pierogi making and eating contests, cultural workshops and vendors to include Polish pottery, amber, wooden eggs, etc!

SPECIAL EVENTS
1 PM Youngstown’s BEST Pierogi Contest Registration $10
Applicants will be judged in one of four categories:

  • Homemade Traditional – boiled or fried pierogi filled with cheese, cheese/potato or kapusta (pickled or fresh cabbage) with or without mushrooms, carrots, etc.
  • Homemade Non-Traditional – open to entrant’s creativity, keeping in mind that a pierog is a stuffed pocket of dough.
  • Commercial – open to any business using a traditional recipe, and;
  • Dessert – pierogi made as a dessert open to entrant’s creativity

A group of celebrity judges will determine the winners for the contest. Winners in each category will walk away with prizes, pride and the title of Youngstown's Best Pierogi Maker.

6 PM Youngstown’s 5th Annual Pierogi Eating Contest Registration $10
You've got 3 minutes to polish off two dozen pierogi---CAN YOU DO IT??? The contest is open to all persons who are 18 years of age or older. Prizes for top winners

  • S & D POLISH DELI of Pittsburgh is our deli vendor this year, and we are very pleased to welcome them back. Bring your coolers and be ready to stock up on 3 tasty varieties of kielbasa, kabanos (both regular and dry), and kiszka. Imported Foods such as dried mushrooms, syrups, preserves, pickles as well as Polish chocolates and sweets.

They will also have a wide variety of Polish Pottery ranging from tableware to large baking dishes and casseroles, decorative pieces and other exceptional items.   • EUROPEAN FOLK ART of Pittsburgh will again have a large display of craft items, Polish dolls, wooden treasures, Christmas ornaments, clothing items and more from owner, Witold Wenc’s many trips to Poland.
