Kosciuszko Foundation President Alex Storozynski to Join Executive Committee and Step Down as President in May 2014

Kosciuszko Foundation Chairman William Nareski said, "Alex has done a great job as President and we are pleased that he will continue his dedication to our mission as a Trustee. The Board is saddened by Alex's decision to step down, but we understand his passion as a writer. He will remain an important part of our team on the Board's Executive Committee."

Chairman Nareski pointed out that under Storozynski's leadership, the Foundation has increased membership, grown the size of its educational endowment, designed a new web site and Internet presence, modernized the scholarship application process, obtained not-for-profit status in Poland, created a KF Alumni network, and established a Washington, D.C. presence by successfully assimilating the American Center for Polish Culture's "O" Street headquarters into the Foundation.

Storozynski said, "Thanks to a Kosciuszko Foundation scholarship, I attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, which gave me the boost I needed to become a journalist and author. For that, I will always be grateful and work to help the next young scholars with big dreams. But five years ago, I put my writing on hold to attend to the day-to-day operations of the KF. Now I need more time for my creative endeavors while continuing to serve the Foundation."

"It was not easy to step into the shoes of Presidents from Stephen Mizwa up thru to Joseph Gore," Storozynski said. "But I learned from them and tried to build on their accomplishments. It's time to hand the baton to the next President who will lead the Kosciuszko Foundation into the future."

The Kosciuszko Foundation, founded in 1925, promotes educational and cultural exchanges between Poland and United States, awarding up to $1 million annually in grants to scholars.

The KF sponsors major events such as the Annual Dinner and Ball at the Waldorf Astoria, the Chopin Piano Competition, exchange programs to Poland and the United States, the summer session programs at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin, the Teaching English in Poland Program, the Washington D.C. Katyn Conference, the recent Economic Conference on The Polish Phenomenon, and numerous other cultural and educational events.

Kosciuszko Foundation members have made major contributions to further education, culture and relations between Poland and the United States, and KF scholars have changed the world.

The search committee to find a new President will be chaired by President Emeritus Joseph E. Gore, Esq., and will include current President Alex Storozynski.
