Brick Project Celebration, Perpetuation with Artful Evening in Youngstown, OH

October 29, 2013

Come and taste a most excellent pairing of wine and art to benefit the bricking project at Peterson Park on Thursday, November 7 from 5-8pm at Wine & Art for the Park. Experience the art of local artist Tom Antonishak, YSU’s Encore String Quartet, a sampling of wine and beer presented by Vintage Estates and unique vodka infusions created by Chef Tad Siembida all in the beautifully renovated Wittenauer Gallery.

Proceeds from the evening will be used to complete the paving necessary to make Peterson Park accessible to all who wish to enjoy the history and splendor of the Veterans monument and the statue of the Revolutionary War Heroes Generals Pulaski and Kosciuszko.

Phase I of the long-awaited bricking project to make this Veterans Memorial park more accessible was completed on October 2-4. Elliott’s Garden Center, Davey Landscaping as well as MCC&TC Horticulture students began to make our dream of accessibility a reality by excavating and laying the bricks under the pergola section of the park.

Several years ago, TownOne Streetscapes welcomed the Polish Veterans Monument. Since that time, PolishYoungstown has been fundraising and hosting a brick campaign to make the park more accessible. The lava rock that currently covers the park, although attractive, makes it inaccessible for veterans, seniors and others who might be physically challenged to visit and enjoy the park. Learn more about the project here.

The second and third phases of the project are scheduled to be completed in Spring and Fall of 2014 if we raise the funds to do so. As such memorial bricks are continuing to be sold and interested parties can call 330-333-9724 or order it online at www.polishyoungstown.org. Click on the Veterans Memorial tab.

Ticket price includes a commemorative glass, light refreshments and an entry into a “Wine and Spirit basket” door prize drawing. Costs $40 per person; $30 for PolishYoungstown members Tickets can be purchased by calling PolishYoungstown at 330-333-9724 or on-line at www.polishyoungstown.org
