Anna’s Medallion” – polski głos o niewolniczej pracy i miłości

It is often said that life writes the best scripts. However, in the case of Krzysztof Domański’s (writing under the pseudonym Kris Draven) debut novel, life wrote a brutal, painful, yet hopeful script. The author presents readers with the book “Anna’s Medallion”, based on the true wartime experiences of his Polish grandparents.

From the Farm to Camp Hell

The novel takes us to the dark times of World War II. We meet Anna, a resistance activist, and Filip, a simple farmhand. Both are torn from their homes in occupied Poland and deported deep into the Third Reich as forced laborers. This is a topic often overlooked in pop culture in favor of front-line battles, yet it affected millions of Poles.

Domański does not spare the reader the truth. He describes the grueling work on German farms, hunger, and omnipresent fear. Yet, in this hopelessness, a feeling is born between Anna and Filip. Their love becomes an act of rebellion – so strong that it leads them through further circles of hell: the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Ravensbrück.

Why is this book important for the Polish diaspora?

“Anna’s Medallion” is more than historical fiction in the style of “The Tattooist of Auschwitz”. It is a record of Polish memory. The author, basing it on his own family’s history, reminds the world about the fate of the “slaves of the Third Reich” and camp prisoners.

The book has received enthusiastic reviews (average rating 4.7/5) from both readers and other writers. Gosia Nealon, author of “The Resistance Wife”, described it as a book that “cannot be put down”, praising the author for not being afraid to show the ugliness of war, so that the beauty of love might resonate even more strongly.

For fans of non-fiction and emotion

If you are looking for a book that keeps you in suspense, moves you to tears, and is a tribute to the indomitable Polish spirit, this is the book for you. It is a story about how even in Buchenwald and Ravensbrück, where the goal was dehumanization, love and a promise encapsulated in a medallion could save lives.
