Town gas and lighting
A breakthrough in the aforementioned gas industry was initiated by William Murdoch, who in 1792 lit his beautiful home with gas produced from coal. Before long, gasworks began to be established in the largest cities of the Old Continent. In Poland, so-called “pioneering” gas plants were developed, ranging from industrial facilities to modern municipal networks.

Legend of the gas industry
The beginnings of the Polish gas industry are tied to the Industrial Revolution and the invention of illuminating gas, in other words (town gas), which took place in the early 19th century. Although this resource initially served mainly to illuminate streets, it quickly revolutionized municipal infrastructure and daily life. Rumor has it that under the first gas lamp, couples in love would meet, and little angels flew right above their heads, watching over their developing affection.
