On stage, violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and pianists Steven Beck and Pavlo Gintov will perform works by Ukrainian composers — Kosenko, Latoshynsky, Skoryk, Kolesa, and others. The program combines the memory of the 1986 tragedy with a tribute to Ukraine’s vibrant and resilient musical tradition.
The concert is organized by the Young Performers Foundation in cooperation with the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, under the patronage of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Andriy Melnyk. All ticket proceeds go to support Ukrainian culture.
For the Polish diaspora, this concert holds special significance. Chornobyl in 1986 did not only affect Ukraine — the radioactive cloud passed over Poland, and Polish mothers still remember the iodine given to children in schools. Chornobyl is a shared memory — and a shared lesson. The Ukrainian and Polish diasporas in New York live side-by-side in Greenpoint, East Village, and Brooklyn. This concert is an opportunity to sit together and listen.
Tickets from $51 (including service fee). Discounts for students and seniors at the Carnegie Hall box office.
