“Magnolia” opens a new series of coins from the Polish Mint titled “Flowers of the Four Seasons”, inspired by the variability of nature. Symbolizing spring, it attracts attention not only with its precision of execution but, above all, with its visual effect, which changes the perception of a classic numismatic item.
At first glance, the coin looks unassuming – almost colorless, with a delicate milky hue. However, just a moment in the sun is enough for pink to begin appearing on the magnolia petals – from subtle to deep, saturated shades. Along with it, the relief details become clearer, as if the flower is gradually blooming on the silver surface.
– “Magnolia” is a combination of minting craftsmanship with modern technology, and light becomes an integral part of the design, bringing out color and detail in a way that has not been present in our emissions until now. We wanted the coin to tell a story of change – just like nature in spring. The magnolia flower literally “blooms” in light, making every interaction with this coin a slightly different experience – said Katarzyna Skąpska, Marketing Manager at the Polish Mint.
The effect visible on the reverse of the coin is due to the use of photochromic pigment that reacts to UV radiation. Depending on its intensity, the color on the magnolia flower appears and intensifies, and then fades when light access decreases. This causes the coin to constantly change its appearance in different external conditions.
The obverse, in turn, is adorned with a subtle plant composition – delicate branches and leaves create a calm background for the entire design, emphasizing the precision of detail and purity of form.
The “Magnolia” coin was made from one ounce of pure silver of the highest fineness (Ag 999) and issued in a limited mintage of 500 copies.
