Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha, has been passionately involved in initiatives that promote peace, culture, and education. Among these is the Children Painting Peace on Earth contest, an international project that encourages children to explore art as a tool for expressing emotions, building empathy, and understanding the values of peace and unity.
A year ago, she had the honour of lending her patronage to the British edition of the inspiring competition “Portrait of a Mother”, under the high patronage of HRH Duke of Kent. The “Portraits of a Mother” art competition was organized by The Portrait Foundation, founded by incredibly talented artist Barbara Hamilton.
This year, together with the distinguished Barbara Kaczmarowska-Hamilton, an artist internationally renowned for her portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, and members of the Royal Family, Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha supported the Polish edition of the contest — an initiative particularly dear to her heart.
The Polish edition has been brought to life for years by Alicja Kotlicka, whose dedication to organising this initiative for the youngest generation deserves the highest recognition. Thanks to her unwavering commitment, Polish children have had the opportunity to discover their artistic talents and express their emotions through painting.
Adding to the event’s special atmosphere, Barbara Kaczmarowska-Hamilton led an inspiring art workshop for the children, teaching them pastel techniques and encouraging them to unlock their creative potential.
One of the most touching moments for Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha was presenting her personal award to a young girl whose artwork deeply moved her. She later learned that this talented young artist dreams of dedicating her future to art — a beautiful testament to the power of nurturing creativity from childhood.
The first edition of the competition, held in 2011, was aimed at middle school students. The second edition expanded to include primary and high school students. After several years, we would like to return to this beautiful initiative, this time focusing on the youngest participants — preschool children and students in the early years of primary education. This reflects the group of children currently working with Alicja Kotlicka, director and psychologist of the Tczew preschools Pan Słonik and Pan Słonik 2.
The aim of the competition was to discover and nurture children’s artistic talents while inspiring them to express their emotions creatively. The Organisers wanted young artists to show how they perceive their mothers — their warmth, love, and everyday gestures. The organisers hope that through art, children will be able to develop emotional intelligence, learning to better understand and express their feelings, while strengthening family bonds.
The Organizers hope that experiences like these will remain cherished memories for the young participants and serve as lasting inspiration.
