The “Wild West” Ball of the Children’s Smile Foundation (Fundacja Uśmiech Dziecka) took place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at The Royal Manor in Garfield, New Jersey. Guests had fun in western-style outfits, and the proceeds from the evening were dedicated to helping the children under the foundation’s care.
For one evening, the elegant banquet hall transformed into an American western saloon. Cowboy hats, plaid shirts, jeans, leather vests, fringed jackets, and neckerchiefs—such were the outfits worn by the guests attending the ball organized by the Children’s Smile Foundation, known to the Polish-American community as Fundacja Uśmiech Dziecka. More than one guest pinned a sheriff’s star to their lapel.
Hay, Saddles, and Country Music
There was plenty of laughter at the photo booth. Wooden barn doors, hay bales, cowboy boots, a saddle, and a prop shotgun, surrounded by autumn-colored balloons and sunflowers—everyone wanted a souvenir photo here. The table decorations and photo booth were prepared by Magda Skrzpek from Party Decor. DJ Marek took the console, playing mostly country music throughout the evening. The Polish guests had a wonderful time dancing to these rhythms.
Fun with a Good Cause
Behind the costumes was a serious purpose. Foundation President Joanna Gwóźdź recalled that for over 25 years, the Children’s Smile Foundation has been helping children struggling with illness or difficult financial situations, and she spoke about the families who have recently received this assistance. Part of the proceeds from the ball will go to the children of Joanna Przedworska from Garfield.
Ms. Joanna has been raising five children on her own for over ten years, since the death of her husband, and the foundation has supported her family ever since. She thanked the donors and sponsors. She said that thanks to them, the children did not spend their vacations in an empty house, could attend Polish school, and go on trips such as “Vacations with the Good Lord.” She added that they remember this kindness and want to help others themselves one day.
The foundation’s chaplain, Fr. Grzegorz Markulak, blessed those gathered. At the end of the official part, Joanna Gwóźdź appealed to open hearts to others and not leave any child alone with their troubles.
