On Palm Sunday, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Greenpoint, THEOS Theatre and Opera Society will present the poetic-vocal performance “Passion and Resurrection.”
The performance, which begins with Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, then presents successive stages of Christ’s passion and suffering, and concludes with His Resurrection.
We will hear, among others, poems by Roman Brandstaetter, Ernest Bryll, and Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, which will be interspersed with passion-themed pieces from various periods. The entire performance is enriched with a multimedia presentation of texts using images by famous painters such as Caravaggio and Rubens.
The performance will feature:
- Kasia Drucker, endowed with a hauntingly beautiful and powerful soprano, resonating with the drama of Greek theater
- Anna Kucay, who recites poems with great sensitivity and drama
- D. Alan Jaymes, accompanying on the piano, completes the whole with musical depth and subtle interpretation.
The trio creates a cohesive, moving story of Christ’s Passion on stage, engaging the audience as living witnesses to Judas’ betrayal, suffering, death, and Resurrection. The multimedia setting is handled by Mr. Tadeusz Nowak.
We invite everyone to join us live in experiencing the Passion of Christ — to stand by the Mother at the Cross, to allow themselves tears of emotion, and to surrender their troubled hearts to Jesus, in full trust in His love for humanity.
