A new investment of GMMP in Poland

General Motors Manufacturing Poland representatives informed that GM is going to spend almost 250mln Euro on the new investment. The first 1.6l Diesel engines will leave the factory in year 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński mentioned during his visit in General Motors Manufacturing Poland in Tychy that the GMMP’s decision to start producing 1.6 engines in Silesia, is not only good news for the region but also for the entire economy. Company representatives informed that GM is going to spend almost 250mln Euro on the new investment. The first 1.6l Diesel engines will leave the factory in year 2017.

Factory in Tychy is situated in the Katowice Special Economic Zone – with the decision of the Council of Ministers the operation of SSE was extended until year 2026. This is why investing in these regions is more profitable and effective.

Deputy Prime Minister marked that the new investment is a step forward in strengthening competitiveness of the factory in Tychy as the manufactured engines will be used in other models of GM cars. Moreover the project is a reason for creating new work places and cooperation with local companies.   

He also ensured that the Ministry of Economy analyzes the development of situation is Polish automotive industry as it is an important segment of the economy which hires 150 thousand employees. According to initial data for two quarters of 2013, despite the crisis the industry generated profits of around PLN60 billion.

General Motors Manufacturing Poland is one of the biggest foreign investments in Katowice Special Economic Zone, as it hires 3500 employees (both in Tychy and Gliwice).  98% of manufactured cars and 90% of engines are exported.  GMMP produces among others Opel Astra, cabriolet Cascada and 1,7l Diesel engines. Total of GM Manufacturing Poland investments in Poland (with today’s decision taken into account) is estimated at around one billion Euros.
