Credit Repair Scams

• Credit bureaus can legally report negative credit information for seven years and bankruptcy information for ten years, as long as the information is accurate.

• If you have poor credit history, even if your past problems were due to illness or unemployment, time is the only thing that will repair your credit report.

• The only information in your credit report that can be changed are items that are actually wrong or beyond the
seven or ten year reporting period.

Remember, there is no quick or easy cure for a poor credit history! Pay bills promptly to avoid late fees and when
times get tough, contact your creditor to work out a solution rather than ignoring the problem.

Be Aware of Scams

United Poles Federal Credit Union will never send an email, text message or make calls requesting your account number, PIN or debit/credit card information. Never respond to a request for this information. If you have a doubt about who is calling you, call back the number you have on record for the Credit Union. Also, check your debit and credit card statements on a regular basis and report any unusual activity to the Credit Union.
