Polish American Congress Banquet

October 18, 2009

The annual Awards Banquet of the Downstate New York Division of the Polish American Congress will be held on Sunday, October 25th at the Polonaise Terrace in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Each year, the Congress honors Polish American organizations and individuals who have distinguished themselves by their involvement in the Polish American community and the promotion of its interests.

Recognition and appreciation is also extended to non-Polish individuals or groups whose public activities conform with and support the goals and concerns of Polish Americans.

In 2008, the recipient of the Congress award in this category was Dr. William Donohue, president of  the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

In the same category, the PAC now selected Catherine Nolan, member of the New York State Assembly and Democratic District Leader in New York City’s Ridgewood section which has recently grown into an important Polish American neighborhood.

Also to be honored will be Very Rev. Cannon Thomas Machalski, pastor of St. Josaphat’s Church in Bayside and past president of the Polish American Priests Association.

Alongside Father Machalski will be Malina Stadnik, president and publisher of the Polish Daily News (Nowy Dziennik), the largest Polish language newspaper on the East Coast.  Ms. Stadnik began her journalistic career more than twenty years ago as a reporter at the newspaper.

The Maria Konopnicka Polish Supplementary School of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Greenpoint will be the organizational honoree.  The oldest school of its kind on the East Coast, it is currently under the directorship of Ms. Danuta Bronchard.

The PAC banquet will begin with a 4:00 p.m. cocktail hour.
