Polonia of Long Island, Inc. invites you to the annual Polish Heritage Day celebration – one of the largest Polish outdoor events on Long Island.
Lindenhurst Gazebo – the heart of Long Island
The event takes place in the picturesque Lindenhurst Village Square Park with its characteristic gazebo, located at the corner of N. Wellwood Avenue and E. Hoffman Avenue in the heart of Lindenhurst. The square was created after a fire in 1996 that destroyed a commercial block standing on this site in Babylon, NY, and since then it has become one of the most important community gathering places on Long Island. Throughout the year, concerts, festivals, and events integrating residents take place here – and Polish Heritage Day is one of the most colorful highlights of this calendar.
What awaits participants?
Guests can expect a rich artistic program with dance performances and live music concerts, stalls with traditional Polish dishes – pierogi, kielbasa, bigos, and other specialties – as well as numerous attractions for children and entire families. It’s a day when Polish culture comes alive on the streets in its most beautiful form, and everyone – regardless of origin – can taste, listen, and feel it.
Admission to the event is free and open to all.

Polonia of Long Island – three decades of community service
Behind the organization of this event is Polonia of Long Island, Inc. – the largest Polish-American organization on Long Island, operating as a charitable organization since 1994 Lipl. Its history goes back even further – initiated by a group of Poles in Copiague, including the Mikucki, Zimnoch, Składanek, and Karwowski families, the organization “Polish Friends of Copiague” Lipl was founded, which eventually transformed into today’s Polonia of Long Island.
The organization’s headquarters are located at 314 Great Neck Road in Copiague, in the building of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) – an institution whose branch opening in Copiague in 2004 was a long-awaited event for the Polish-American community on Long Island Psfcu. For over three decades, the organization has led countless initiatives: from a scholarship program operating continuously since 1999, through the Miss Polonia contest, to educational meetings, trips, and balls.
Riverhead – where Long Island’s Polish history begins
Speaking of Polish heritage on Long Island, it’s impossible not to mention Riverhead and the legendary Polish Town – an eight-block district that for over a hundred years was the center of Polish life on the eastern end of the island Dan’s Papers. It was there, at the end of the 19th century, that Polish immigrants began to settle, seeking a better life and escape from persecution during the partitions.
According to Suffolk County Historical Society documents, approximately one in five Long Island residents and one in four Riverhead residents can boast at least partial Polish ancestry. Dan’s Papers In the heart of Polish Town, St. Isidore’s Church still stands today – the oldest Polish Roman Catholic parish on Long Island Patch, where masses are still celebrated in Polish. The streets of the district are still adorned with red signs with white letters and the Polish eagle – a living symbol of heritage that has survived generations.
Meanwhile, in Port Washington, the Polish American Museum operates – a facility collecting memorabilia from military uniforms and medals to accounts from concentration camps, donated by members of the Polish-American community Wikipedia.
Polish Heritage Day in Lindenhurst is a modern continuation of this rich tradition – a bridge connecting the history of Polish immigration with the vibrant, energetic Polish community of today.
