Fr. Marek Weresa – Vatican

Adam Kwiatkowski noted that the annual commemorations of John Paul II’s passing to the House of the Father are an opportunity to remember the pontificate of “the great Pole and all that he did for Poland, but also for the whole world”.

This year’s Easter holidays, which we are about to celebrate, will take place against a backdrop of great social and political unrest. The Polish Pope – according to Adam Kwiatkowski – showed us the path we should follow during his pontificate. “John Paul II’s message, his commitment and pursuit of peace resonate in a special way today,” the Polish ambassador pointed out.

At the same time, Adam Kwiatkowski noted that the tomb of St. John Paul II in St. Peter’s Basilica is a special place. Every day, people – representatives of many nationalities – stop there and remain in prayer. “And this also shows that he was a Pope remembered by people from all over the world,” Adam Kwiatkowski added.

Today’s ceremony of laying flowers at the tomb of the Polish Pope was private, as part of the Vatican Basilica, including the Chapel of St. Sebastian, where the tomb of the Polish Pope is located, was closed to pilgrims. This is due to the organizational and liturgical needs of the commencing Paschal Triduum. Yesterday, on Holy Wednesday, a Polish Diaspora Prayer Vigil took place in St. Peter’s Square.
